With my poor track record of actually getting to meet up with Adele Geras, I shouldn’t write anything in advance. (Feel a bit sniffly, but not bad.) But Adele and her daughter Sophie Hannah are coming to Simply Books today, Monday. So all fingers crossed that can be crossed, but not actually while I’m typing this.
Adele is getting to play Queen/Lady Mayoress this afternoon and will be cutting ribbons or something at a local school, opening a library. After which she’ll only have to entertain the whole young reviewers club. And when she’s ready to go home after that, Adele will stay on and do an adult talk with Sophie.
Sophie will be talking about her second crime novel, Hurting Distance, which I’ve been reading the last few days. I liked her first one, Little Face, last year, and number two is just as good. This time round I don’t actually like the “main” character much. But that’s probably the intention. Hard to say who’s the main character, really, as Sophie has regular police characters as well. What’s interesting is seeing the story from both points of view. There’s some horrible stuff happening, and if I was Adele I’d want to know where it’s coming from.
Don’t know as yet what Adele will be talking about, but will report back.
