Something to read on the train

January 14, 2008 · No Comments

It’s all very well to take laptops on trains, and to be able to read all sorts of things, like this wonderful blog and other good stuff. But it was only the other day I finally saw some purpose with the Blackberry. The Resident IT Consultant has acquired one. (Well, he’s a boy, working for other boys.)

He came home the other evening and could truthfully say he’d read my latest blog entry on the train. And I suppose that even if you have to stand on the train, the Blackberry is accessible, where the laptop wouldn’t be.

It reminded me of that thing Gwendolen says in The Importance of Being Earnest; “I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.” Not modest, but very sensible.

I’m off to London on the train this morning, sans both laptop and Blackberry. But my shoulder will ache under the weight of some good books.
