Crazy cover colours

It is sunglasses time! Hopefully because it is nice and sunny where you are, but also because I’ve gone mad. I suspect it’s my Gudrun Sjödén genes speaking to me. And, by default, to you as well.

Gudrun Sjödén‘s clothes are what any self-respecting Swedish librarian wears, and the clothes are frequently stripey and full of matching, or non-matching, colours. That will be why I like this book cover so much.

I thought after our little cover discussion the other day, that I might occasionally treat you to covers I like. And I think we decided that good covers – or bad ones – don’t necessarily have much to do with the story inside or its quality.

I suspect that Mad Love is quite a readable book, at the lighter end of young teen fiction. I haven’t read it. I might still, because it survived my latest cull. Partly because the story vaguely attracts me, and then there is the cover.

Suzanne Selfors, Mad Love

There’s not a lot you can do with pinks and red. Wearing it is hard. Too intense for a room colour scheme. But like this it is perfect. The heart shape is also good. I like hearts. My watch repair man recognises me from my watch strap with hearts on it.

And I know it was International Women’s Day yesterday, and I should not flog pink. But I like pink. Not as much as purple, obviously. But as I move more towards witch’s blacks for myself, I need some cheerful stuff nearby.

  1. I know it’s pretty in-your-face but I love the cover!

  2. As a long time lurker, I’ve been drawn out by the cardigan comment. It’s not just Swedish librarians who love Gudrun’s clothes – so do we Brits! As for covers, it’s a bit shriekingly girly but will sell itself to my readers (and I shall be buying it now.)

  3. Great! A cardigan wearing lurker! Please leave more comments every now and then, or people will think I only have ten readers.

I’ll endeavour to go for something sober and grand next time.

  4. I love both cardigans and Gudrun S, though I have to confess that I’ve been ordering less from her these days…but very nice pink and purple cover reminds me of Clothkits from the 70s. My daughters had t shirt dresses from Clothkits which were basically pink and purple wide stripes and were quite lovely, I thought. Though they both now tell me their childhood clothes weren’t up to much and that the Seventies is the decade that style forgot. It’s true that my grandchildren are much better dressed than my kids ever were!

  5. Don’t tell anyone, but I used to get Son’s early wardrobe from the girls’ section, because the boys’ clothes were so dull. He looked great in his purple polo shirt with orange collar! And the ‘damage’ done continues when he shops for himself these days.
